Sentea is a scale-up with its origins at the joint Photonics Research Group (PRG) of Ghent University and nano-technology research center imec. The PRG has been working on silicon photonics based fiber optic sensor technology and interrogators since 2009.

A team of researchers from the PRG together with seasoned managers, and supported by a consortium of leading Belgian high-tech investors, founded the company in 2018 to commercialize 10 years of research.

Fiber optic sensing allows for accurate and robust structural health monitoring, predicting and preventing equipment failure and structural damage to infrastructure. Furthermore they are often used to monitor and improve the operational efficiency of equipment and processes. FBG sensors outperform electric sensors, especially in harsh environments.

Thanks to the use of silicon photonics, wind farms, civil structures, heavy industries and transport will benefit from Sentea’s small and cost-effective FBG interrogators.
